Leiths ASDA Partnership
LEITHS, ASDA AND EXTRA SPECIAL
February 2012
Since last autumn Leiths has been working with ASDA to develop and improve their Extra Special range of products. Following a successful pilot project focussing on the Extra Special Christmas range, a small team of Leiths trained tasters and recipe developers is now working in new dedicated premises in London. There they are tasting and evaluating existing products, as well as developing new lines for the Extra Special range, which covers a wide variety, including fresh meat, cheese, vegetables and fruit, through to convenience products such as canapés, mince pies and ready meals. The project is expected to last a further 15 months.
We have been very impressed by the ASDA team’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement; they share our passionate interest in good food. They are extremely knowledgeable and complement our skills. We believe that through working with ASDA Leiths can make a significant contribution to food quality in one of the United Kingdom’s biggest food retailers.
The project gives us an invaluable insight into and hands-on experience in the food industry. At Leiths we pride ourselves on training students not only to become chefs but also food professionals; an increasing number of our students are going into food development roles.
