Booking advice and headline terms and conditions

  1. Check the availability of the course on the appropriate course page or on the Courses at a Glance page, then come back to this page to make sure that you are happy with our requirements listed here.
  2. The Basic Certificate in Practical Cookery, evening classes and short courses may be applied for using the online form and your credit or debit card.
  3. For Leiths Diploma and the Advanced, Intermediate and Beginners certificates, print out and fill in the enrolment form (PDF).
  4. Each applicant must fill in a separate form.
  5. Make sure that you have read and understood the Terms and Conditions of Enrolment on page 2 of the printed form.
  6. Send the completed form to The Registrar, Leiths School of Food and Wine,16-20 Wendell Road,London W12 9RT, United Kingdom. Either send your remittance with the form or phone through your credit card details.

Payment

Short courses, evening classes and demonstrations must be paid for in full. All major credit cards are accepted but a 1.5% administration fee applies to all amounts over £750.00. If a payment over £750.00 is split into smaller amounts, the administration fee will still apply to the entire amount. Cheques must be in pounds sterling drawn on a British bank.

Distance Selling Regulations (UK)

Once you have booked you have the right to cancel the contract (and have all monies paid returned to you) at any time during the period ending on the day falling seven working days after the date of the contract. If you wish to cancel the contract you must do so in writing. To be effective, the notice must be posted or delivered not later than the last day of the period set out above. If you start attending a class before the expiry of this period, you will lose your right to cancel.

Eligibility and accommodation

The full-time courses are open to adults. The School is non-residential, but we can help in finding accommodation locally once you are enrolled.

Attendance

Students on full-time courses may be disqualified from taking examinations if they have not completed the course.

In the UK

Students wishing to join one of the cookery Certificate or Diploma courses (except theBasic Certificate) should make an appointment for an interview with the teaching staff, who will advise on the availability and entry requirements for each course.

Overseas

Students from abroad may be required to send a résumé of their cooking experience, knowledge and skills. Spoken English is required. Where English is not the student's mother tongue, we ask that the students reach the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) band score of 6 for holiday courses and 6.5 for Certificate courses. A recognised equivalent to this qualification is acceptable.

Fees

The basic fees including VAT (Value Added Tax) are shown on the course pages. There are accompanying books, knives, uniform and other items which must be acquired.Full terms and conditions.

Dress, shoes and equipment

Cookery Certificate and Diploma students: In the kitchen students are required to wear a hat, necktie, chef's jacket, apron, chef's trousers and Dr Martens or similar footwear, as well as buy a set of chefs' knives and the course literature.

2 and 4-week holiday courses: You are required to wear an apron, white shirt and long trousers, and are advised to wear trousers and low-heeled shoes.

Cookery evening classes and 1-week courses: You are required to wear an apron and advised to wear low-heeled shoes.

Hygiene standards

Students on cookery Certificate and Diploma courses must study for the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate unless they already have an equivalent qualification.

Coursework

Students on examination-based cookery Certificate courses will be expected to study at home for about 4 to 5 hours a week. This will include time-plans, menu-planning and costing. A final portfolio is assesssed at the end of the academic year for students on the Diploma and Advanced Certificate course.

Examinations

To gain a Leiths Cookery Certificate or Diploma, students will be continually assessed during the practical sessions and must pass the theoretical and cookery examinations. Where wine is an integral part of the course, students must pass the relevant wine examinations.

Health

All students should be immunised for tetanus. Please let the School know in advance if you have any relevant medical conditions such as dyslexia, allergies, diabetes, epilepsy, eating disorders, poor vision or partial hearing.
