£6.5k raised for City Harvest London

On 17th March we held our annual canapé party in aid of our charity of the year; City Harvest London.

The canapé party is one of the most hotly anticipated events at Leiths each year. This is not only because of the amazing display of food created by our teachers and students, it's also an opportunity to raise as much money as possible for our charity of the year.

We're delighted to announce that we were able to raise a whopping £6,500 for City Harvest London at this year's event, which will help them to redistribute surplus food to 150 organisations that feed the hungry across the city. All food is transported in refrigerated vans and the impact they have is hugely impressive.

One of these vans delivers:

  • 135 tons of food per year
  • 1,000 meals every day
  • 311,000 meals per year
  • 3 million meals in its lifetime

So what was on the menu? The canapés were created by our teachers and prepared by our current Diploma students for the guests.

Breadcrumbed monkfish cheeks with oyster mayonnaise and pickled cucmber; beetroot meringues with almonds and goat's cheese; and Guinness molasses loaf with stilton and truffle honey were just a few of the wonderful morsels on offer.

And, of course, we would never have been able to raise the £6.5k without the prizes donated to us by students, staff members, alumni and suppliers.

From dinner at some of the most exciting restaurants around, fine wines and weeklong holidays; to original pieces of artwork, luxury Easter eggs and signed copies of special edition cookbooks - there were some incredible items up for grabs. We were bowled over by people's generosity.

We will be supporting the charity throughout 2017 with collections at the school, so look out for the collection tin at reception if you pay us a visit and would like to contribute.

Our thanks go to all of our guests, the students and staff members who cooked on the night and helped to collect raffle prizes; and the numerous companies who donated prizes, including: Chez Bruce, Belazu, Tapas Revolution, the Gladwin Brothers and Nutbourne, Atul Kochhar and Benares, Kerbisher and Malt, Food and Travel magazine, Anglia Print, Scott Poulson at Special Design Studio, Ursula Ferrigno, Robert Welch, Ben Tish and Veneta and Epic Retreats.
