Health and Wellbeing at Work 2016: Food for thought

A summary of our trip to this year's fair and news about our nutritional classes with Kate Cook.

At this year’s Health and Wellbeing at Work Fair, hosted by NEC Birmingham, we teamed up with Kate Cook to talk about the benefits of paying attention to what you eat, how you eat it and the relationship between food and workplace wellbeing.  

Leiths is working with Kate, one of the UK’s leading Wellness and Nutrition experts, in order to deliver collaborative demonstrations and classes to workforces. These new sessions combine Kate’s knowledge of the science behind corporate wellness with Leiths’ celebration of food and the joys of eating and cooking together. 

With the stresses of professional life mounting year on year, it’s becoming increasingly important for companies to deliver effective wellbeing programmes, ensuring that their colleagues are as healthy and happy as possible. We certainly found that people at this year’s fair were starting to make the important and glaring connection between wellbeing and food. 

Skipping breakfast, wolfing down a fast food lunch at your desk, grabbing a packet of crisps on your commute to stop your tummy rumbling; these are all habits that will be familiar to most working people. Making sacrifices such as these takes its toll on both physical and mental health. However, even though the negative impact of these behaviours is fairly obvious, changing them is perceived as being very difficult. 

Our aim in delivering nutritional classes is to equip staff with the tools to make small, achievable adjustments to their everyday lives. Kate’s advice is down to earth and realistic, making those changes seem all the more attainable. Teamed with the Leiths chefs' practical demonstrations and delicious, healthy tastings, the events are designed to provide teams with a genuinely enjoyable experience whilst equipping them with knowledge that will have a lasting, positive impact on their working lives.
