COVID-19 STATEMENT

Due to the coronavirus outbreak Leiths has made the difficult decision to cancel all planned courses (except our online courses) until the end of June. In these exceptional circumstances all students who have booked places on our courses will be offered the opportunity to cancel or reschedule their course. If you are currently in the process of taking a multi-part course, you will be offered new dates to complete the course later in the year. Of course we will be dealing with a high volume of calls and emails and we thank you for your understanding and patience during this unsettling time. We look forward to cooking with you at Leiths in the near future.

Shini Karandawala’s Pop-up Success

Diploma student Shini took on the challenge of running a pop-up supper club to raise funds for the Nepal earthquake appeal.

I am finally sitting down and writing about this event after promising to so, so many times. It’s a wonder I can even remember what
went on almost a month ago, but I hope it is something I look back on as one of my first big steps into a career in the food industry.

Accompanied by 6 of my best school friends (Chand, Emily, Janet, Katy, Lucie and Roz), I had a good team behind me to bark orders at whilst I had a relatively stress-free evening! The school where I have been studying, Leiths, had lent me the use of their test kitchen premises in West London so for one Saturday night we transformed it into a quaint eatery. What we didn’t account for was how hot it would get when 23 guests are romantically lit by candlelight on a summer’s evening, but luckily we found a fan somewhere so everybody didn’t melt!

The menu went down well, lots of guests enjoying their first taste of Sri Lankan cuisine. The favourite being the coconut pol roti, spiked with onion and chilli, served with extra creamy homemade butter.

A big thank you to Camilla, Jo and Mel at Leiths for securing me the venue. To Lizzy who answered all my painful questions about hot water and tea towels and to Jane who ordered my awkward exacting ingredients.
A good time was had by all and an even better sleep that night, relief that we pulled it off but also excitement to get another date in
the diary for The Introverted Chilli’s next supper club. I look forward to seeing you all there!
