Summary Food Writing with Joe Warwick: Online Evening Course

Join us with your very best pen and favourite notebook, and spend a series of four virtual evenings on Zoom with leading food writer and author Joe Warwick; who will unleash and inspire the talented food writer within you.

Joe will also be welcoming a line-up of influential guest speakers including Fay Maschler MBE, who was the restaurant critic of London's Evening Standard newspaper for nearly 50 years, and Bob Granleese who is food and drink Editor of The Guardian's Weekend Magazine.

London-based Joe writes prolifically about food, travel and restaurants, and his wealth of experience spreads across many different genres of writing, stemming from his diverse career path. Over the years he’s spent time as a restaurant critic, magazine editor, reporter on Radio 4 Food programme and co-founder of ‘The World’s 50 best restaurants’, and is also the author of best-selling international restaurant guide and iOs App, ‘Where Chefs Eat: A guide to chefs’ favourite restaurants’, now in its third edition.

Each evening will cover a different food writing theme including how to effectively structure a piece of writing and various techniques for features and writing. You will also discuss the role of a restaurant critic, discover exactly what it is that editors want, and how to pitch to them successfully. Joe will guide you through a series of short presentations, create tailored writing exercises and facilitate peer feedback sessions, which will lead you to determine your own unique food writing voice.

Using examples of work from some of history’s best food writers, you will analyse and discuss the secrets behind what makes writing both impactful and memorable. We encourage you to bring along lots of enthusiasm to the sessions, and be ready to share your work and thought-provoking ideas with your like-minded companions.
