WSET Level 2: Award in Wines and Spirits - Evening Course

There are currently no dates for this course.

Whether you’re working front of house in a restaurant, looking for your first job in the wine industry, or simply a great lover of wine, this is a unique opportunity to achieve a professional wine qualification in your spare time.

From PR and marketing, to buying for larger brands or working with small artisan producers, the British wine industry is booming right now.

If you’re embarking on a career in wine, a qualification from two respected institutions - Leiths and the WSET - will set your CV apart.

The WSET is the backbone of the British wine industry, offering globally recognised qualifications, and Leiths offers a wonderfully warm, creative learning environment.

Students tell us they like the fact that the course takes place over nine evenings, as they have plenty of opportunity to absorb what they have learnt, and apply their knowledge as they taste and select wines at the weekend.

Your course leader, Johnnie Parkhurst, grew up in Paris and has been passionate about wine ever since!

Johnnie spent two decades in the restaurant trade and four years as a wine merchant before setting up the Vintner Wine Academy five years ago. He teaches all over the U.K. and enjoys fostering students’ love of wine.

The course will cover:

  • How to taste wine like a professional
  • An in-depth look at wine grape varietals and producing regions
  • Understanding the factors that influence a wine’s style and price
  • Looking ‘behind the label’; interpreting key labelling terms which convey the style, flavour and method of production of still, sparkling and fortified wines
  • Interpreting key labelling terms to understand the style, flavour and method of production of spirits and liqueurs
  • How to take a systematic approach to wine tasting
  • Full Student Pack provided

The course will culminate in a one hour exam consisting of 50 multiple choice questions. A pass mark of 55% is required. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

This course is open to everyone; the only entry requirement is a passion for wine! However beginners with very little knowledge in wine may wish to take our WSET Level 1: Award in Wines one day class.
